Conjecture, Consensus, Evidence of Truth
Re: Conjecture, Consensus, Evidence of Truth
Notre Dame is like the Dallas Cowboys...either you love them or hate them. I have to admit I'm a fan of the Irish. Of course I was born and raised in the midwest, plus was Catholic and my family was predominantly Irish. Plus my dad's brother played for Notre Dame before transferring to Marquette (home of John McAdams) when they still had football. Speaking of transferring, once you commit to a military academy, you can only opt out before your junior season. Notre Dame tried to get Red to transfer to South Bend after his sophomore season. He was tempted, as they had just won a national title behind a guy named Joe Montana, but he ended up staying in Annapolis and had a great career there.
Re: Conjecture, Consensus, Evidence of Truth
unfortunately Bob....I am a cowboys fan. I lived and died with them as a child. I still of course pull for them, but I have grown weary of the Cowboys, and Sports in general. I understand about the catholic part. I was married to a Catholic, and Notre Dame was their team, but UT is my team, which I also love to hate. Opiate of the masses is probably a true statement, and some times I am right in the middle of them.Bob wrote:Notre Dame is like the Dallas Cowboys...either you love them or hate them. I'm actually writing a story about the Boys and the Packers this week. By the way, I am an OPRC. That means I'm an occassionally practicing Roman Catholic. Many of the preachings of the Church are 180 degrees from their actual practices, and that is NEVER good. I would say I am a true spiritualist now...and I'm still searching for answers.
Re: Conjecture, Consensus, Evidence of Truth
Media Control.....It is something that I wonder about. Is it being controlled? By how much? By who or whom, and When did it start? I don't really have any exact answers on this, but I think anybody can be duped, and then can feel ashamed, and try to hide being duped. Being a Texas boy I always respected Walter Cronkite, maybe just like being raised to pull for the Dallas Cowboys. I could never understand why he couldn't see the light on the JFK Assassination, especially since he was so tied to JFK in History. I mean Walter didn't seem to be a stupid man or liar. On a emotional level all I could come up with was that he was Duped, along with Dan Rather another Texas boy, but one that I do not respect as much. What could be said to make them lie? My feeling is that it had to be big and patriotic. I think they were told that either Fidel or Russia was behind the Assassination, and that if the truth came out we would have WW 3 with Nukes before long. It was bigger then Mr. Oswald's innocences and life. It was bigger then the justice JFK deserved. Later of course they had to know they were duped on some level. LBJ's best catch phrase was always : When you are saving face. You are losing Ass.

Also, when I met my wife, one of the first converasations we ever had concerned Larry Bird. Rudy is a classic no doubt. I consider John Wooden, along with Vince Lombardi, the two best coaches in sports history. Knute Rockne is up there as well.
