I think based on what Randy has told me about David Phillips' personality and from what I've read about Ed Lansdale, that they were not going to back down, not with all the planning they had done, not to mention their rogue persona's. You certainly had a mixture of CIA/mob culture in Dealey Plaza that day, but I think the ultimate call of whether the hit took place was on the shoulders of Lansdale and Phillips. The mob was a puppet of the CIA and it was Lansdale and Phillips that pulled the strings as far as making it happen that day in Dealey Plaza. Just my opinion.
