That's either a Rambler, or a Checker wagon, no doubt. That diagonal pillar in the cargo bay area makes me say AMC, but I can't swear to it. sure wish that tail light was better res. It's too blurred for an absolute ID.

I saw that in a picture somewhere and it was a 1957 Chevrolet wagon. The Rambler was supposedly parked on the back side of the TSBD?

Here's what I'm seeing. I may be wrong. on this picture I've marked in yellow where the diagonal pillar would have to be on a '57 chev. A '57 has no diagonal pillar pillar or trim in that location. the yellow line is mine, and follows no structure on the vehicle. If it's a Checker wagon, then it's all chevy under the sheetmetal, just like with a Studebaker.

Alec wrote:[The Roger Craig interview]'This man saw you leave' (indicating me). Oswald said, 'I told you people I did.' Fritz then said, 'Now take it easy, son, we're just trying to find out what happened,' and then (to Oswald), 'What about the car?' to which Oswald replied, 'That station wagon belongs to Mrs. Paine. Don't try to drag her into this.' Fritz said car -- station wagon was not mentioned by anyone but Oswald.I found this quite interesting, and I'm sure many of you have already heard of this before. This would totally contradict the Warren Report on so many accounts. A lot of people find Craig hard to believe, but became the subject of a mysterious suicide in 1975.What say you? Thanks!AlecI've been intrigued by that comment of Oswald's (assuming Craig reported it correctly) about the station wagon belonging to Mrs Paine. What do the experienced researchers make of this particular comment by Oswald, if indeed he made it? I know who Mrs Paine is, of course (but not whether she owned a station wagon or not .... presumably she did).Could they simply have been talking at cross-purposes, given the strain (on Oswald) of the situation? Was Mrs Paine ever officially questioned about this comment?

Roger Craig used the term Rambler StationwagonIt is my understanding the LHO said "that stationwagon"?I seem to recall the Paines owning up that they had a stationwagon but did not identify it as a Rambler?

* Later in the afternoon Craig received word of Oswald's arrest and that he was suspected of being involved in the Kennedy'smurder. He immediately thought of the man running down the grassy knoll and made a telephone call to Capt. Will Fritz togave him the description of the man he had seen. Fritz saidCraig's description sounded like the man they had and asked him to come take a look. When he saw Oswald in Fritz's personal office Deputy Craig confirmed that this was indeed the man, dressed in the same way, that he had seen runningdown the knoll and into the Rambler. They went into the office together and Fritz told Oswald, "This man (pointing to me) saw you leave." At which timethe suspect replied, "I told you people I did." Fritz, apparently trying to console Oswald, said, "Take it easy, son--we're just trying to find out what happened." Fritz then said, "What about the car?" Oswald replied, leaning forward on Fritz' desk, "That station wagon belongs to Mrs. Paine--don't try to drag her into this." Sitting back in his chair, Oswald said very disgustedly and very low, "Everybody will know who I am now."The fact that Fritz said "car" and this elicited Oswald'soutburst about a "station wagon"--that no one else had mentioned--confirms the veracity of Roger Craig's story.

Thank you for your responses Gentlemen.I had seen the clips of the Roger Craig interview several times before, but it is good to be reminded of exactly what he said. (I had forgotten that Mark Lane said that the Paines had a station wagon).I've seen other threads where it is suggested that both Paines had certain connections, such that it is not inconceivable that they were linked in some way to the conspiracy. If they were, and if Oswald also was, then he presumably would know that they were, so why would he draw attention to them with this comment? If he was only part of an attempt at infiltrate and stop the conspiracy, he would presumably know about the Paine's part in it, if any. I'm not sure, but perhaps in that case he might have mentioned Mrs Paine's name to make sure that she and her husband got checked out by the police. If on the other hand (playing devil's advocate) he was guilty of something and had something to hide, he might possibly have just thrown the name out in order to confuse the investigation.
